The Phoenix Combat Academy/Jay Pages Jiu-Jitsu Camp came prepared for the second round of the 135 lb women’s tournament with Greg Jackson competitor Emily Peters-Kagen. Although she lost in the first round and was brought back due to fighters injury, we still knew we had to come prepared knowing the camp she comes from. We knew it would be a good tough fight for Tsui-Jen, however it was everything but tough! It was a massacre! It was one of the most one sided fights I have ever seen in my life! Tsui-Jen controlled the fight, she did more damage, she was the aggressor, she dictated every bit of the fight! In short, she dominated! The crowd, the commentators, other camps, and even the Tuff-N-Uff Staff felt she won. Pre celebration cheers were in commencement because we all knew Tsui-Jen won the fight! Judgement time came around and everyone sat there in confusion. We all sat there wondering how and why Emily’s name was called as the winner and how her hand was raised after being dropped to the canvas multiple times. We were speechless!
There are fights out there that are close when it comes to decisions. Even when it seems more one sided, there is still a bit of gray area to where it can go either way. He or she did this or that, that why he or she won! This was not the case in this fight! This was a very one sided fight! Even the live coverage and tweets of the event saw what everyone else saw! What were the judges watching? Here’s what everyone and the commentators were watching…
(From the Tuff-N-Uff Ringside Coverage and Tweeting!)
Tsui-Jen “Soo Bee Doo” Cunanan (3-1, Phoenix Combat Academy) vs. Emily Peters-Kagan (2-1, Jacksons MMA) @ 135 for Women’s Tournament
Round 1: Tsui-Jen dominates the whole round with superior striking. Emily has no answer. The whole round is standing.
Round 2: More of the same.
Round 3: More of the same. They announce a split decision win for Emily Peters and the crowd erupts in boos. Tsui-Jen’s camp is pissed. Emily will continue in the tournament but she, and everyone else, knows she doesn’t deserve it.
Despite our disagreements and complaints, the judgment stood! We are currently in the process of disputing the judgment and having it overturned. When I spoke with the director of the ISKA, he even felt Tsui-Jen dominated the fight! With that being said, the prospect of the judgment being overturned looks promising.
